For the next age band, say 5 to 13yrs there is supervised snorkelling and fishing, beach activities and exploring, cooking and activities more related to their age group.  On regular occasions the Clownfish Club even holds an age related disco for the kids.

For over 13's and kids that think they are all grown up or adults that still haven't grown up, Hamilton Island has around 40 different activities, 6 pools, over 20 shops and boutiques,, 20km of bushwalking trails and a year-round temperature of 27.4C - try keep the kids off the beach and out of the pools!  You won't be able to!

After hours and for infants and children aged 6 weeks - 4 years Hamilton island has qualified group leaders and baby sitters available for child minding at an additional feeboth at the Clownfish Club or looking after your children in your holiday property if you feel like having some more adult time!

Hamilton Island activities

  Activities on Hamilton Island are aimed at the timid to the adventurous and from family and group related activities like Paintball to a special charter just two for a romantic reef cruise or perhaps a helicopter flight to one of the uninhabited Whitsunday island for lunch for two!

  On the island itself you can visit the Koala Gallery Wildlife Experience and pet a koala, a cockatoo or feed a kangaroo.  Stick around for the daily crocodile feeding and keep your eye out for the emus!  All on Hamilton Island!

  Hamilton Island has a brilliant go-kart track with enough length in the straight to get more speed than you'd like coming through the corners and you'll find it very addictive.  There is also mini golf and a golf driving range and you just have to try the Wire Flyer - a real hang glider suspended on a safety wire zipping over one of the valleys in absolute safety ... try telling your heart that as you leap off the edge!  There are water sports like jet skis, catamaran and windsurfer hire and lessons, snorkelling or perhaps take one of the many daily visits to the outlying islands and reef.  One of the surprisingly enjoyable activities is zipping around some of the islands 15km or so of bitumen roads in your golf buggy ... most private holiday properties will include a free buggy for your use whilst on the island and there is also the option of hiring a buggy for 1/2 day or full day use if you are visiting for just the day.

   Hamilton Islands main shopping area curves around the Hamilton Island marina and harbour and includes the Hamilton Island supermarket, bakeries, pharmacy, camera and photo shop, dress shops, hairdressers, bank ( NAB ) Post Office, newsagency, chandlery etc etc plus many fine restaurants and cafes to choose from.

Hamilton Island Race Week - 20-28th August 2010

  If you’re a sailor or sailing enthusiast, you won’t want to miss Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2010 – the largest offshore yacht racing event in Australia that consistently attracts a record number of competing yachts both nationally and internationally.  This year Race Week is over 20-28th August 2010.  I would suggest if you are attending either as competitor or spectator to make sure you book your accommodation well before August as the best options tend to be booked up early.  There are a number of privately owned properties that will give you a discount for an early booking ... email me directly for Race Week accommodation by clicking here ...

Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup - 24th to 27th June 2010

The Hamilton Island Cup is Australia's largest, oldest and richest outrigger canoe event and attracts competitors from Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii.  This year the Cup is held from 24th to 27th June 2010.

For the record, I have never competed in the Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup.  That's me in the pic at right in the yellow t-shirt as an entry in the 500m slalom event in Port Stephens, NSW.  We lost but life goes on!  Paul.
